Mother’s Day is often a time to reflect on the relationships that shape us most. For us, it is also a moment to pause and appreciate the journey we have shared while building Moo & Yoo together.
Working side by side as mother and daughter has brought a unique dynamic to both our business and our relationship. Starting a company together was never simply about creating haircare. It was about building something meaningful that reflected our shared values around sustainability, gentle formulations, and conscious beauty.
Along the way, we have discovered that building a family business brings its own set of rewards, lessons and surprises.
Discovering New Sides of Each Other
One of the most unexpected parts of working together has been discovering new sides of one another.
For Olivia, building Moo & Yoo meant seeing her mother beyond the familiar role of parent.
“As we started growing the business, I was able to see my mum differently not only as a parent but as an entrepreneur, someone with creativity, resilience, and an ability to keep pushing forward even when things feel difficult. Building a business together brings a very different dynamic to a mother and daughter relationship that I think is quite rare to experience.”
For Suzie, the experience has been equally revealing.
“Working together has been such a special experience. There is a level of trust between us that is absolute. We know each other so well that we can be completely honest about ideas, challenge each other and debate things openly. But we always know we are working towards the same goal.”
That trust has become one of the foundations of Moo & Yoo. In many businesses, building that level of openness and honesty can take years. For us, the family bond already created that starting point.

Different Strengths, Shared Purpose
Another reason the partnership works so naturally is that our strengths are very different.
Suzie tends to approach the business with a creative mindset, often generating ideas faster than they can realistically be implemented. Olivia, on the other hand, brings a more structured and technical perspective.
“I often have lots of ideas,” Suzie explains, “and Olivia is brilliant at helping shape them into something structured and achievable. That balance between creativity and practicality has been a big part of how Moo & Yoo has grown.”
Olivia sees that balance in the same way.
“Our strengths complement each other. If there is something one of us is struggling with or feeling less confident about, most of the time it plays to the others strength, and we are able to steps in and work through it quite naturally.”
This natural flow has allowed Moo & Yoo to evolve in a way that reflects both perspectives: creativity paired with thoughtful execution.

Navigating Disagreements
Of course, no partnership is without challenges. When two people care deeply about a business, strong opinions are inevitable.
“We do not always agree,” Suzie says. “But when you are running a growing business, you cannot dwell on disagreements. There is always another decision to make, another opportunity to explore. We have learned to resolve things quickly and move forward.”
Olivia agrees that the shared vision for Moo & Yoo makes these moments easier to navigate.
“Even when we disagree, we know we are always on the same side. We both care about the same values and the same bigger picture for the business.”
That shared purpose often turns challenges into opportunities to learn from one another.

Celebrating the Journey Together
One of the most rewarding parts of building Moo & Yoo as a family business is being able to share the journey.
“When something goes well, we get to celebrate those moments together,” Olivia says. “And when challenges arise, they feel less overwhelming because we know we are facing them side by side.”
Over time, the process of building Moo & Yoo has also strengthened our communication beyond the workplace.
“It has taken time, but we have learned how to communicate clearly and honestly with each other,” Olivia says. “That has helped us understand each other’s perspectives better, not just in business but in our family life as well.”

Protecting Family Time
Running a business together does come with one important challenge: knowing when to switch off.
“When you work with family it can easily spill into everyday life,” Suzie says. “We have had to learn to set boundaries because the rest of the family do not necessarily want to hear about Moo & Yoo 24 hours a day.”
Protecting time away from business has become an important part of keeping the balance between work and family.

Building Something Meaningful Together
Looking back, building Moo & Yoo together has been far more than a professional journey. It has deepened our respect for one another, strengthened our communication and created a partnership built on trust, shared purpose and mutual support.
Our relationship has shaped the heart of Moo & Yoo and the values that guide everything we do, from creating gentle, salon-quality formulations to building a brand that reflects conscious, sustainable living.
For us, Moo & Yoo will always be more than a business. It is a reflection of our family, our values and the journey we have shared as mother and daughter.
This Mother’s Day, we are grateful for the opportunity to build something meaningful together.
