How to Get Rid of Split Ends

How to Get Rid of Split Ends

Split ends are one of the most common hair concerns – and one of the most frustrating. No matter your hair type, those little frayed ends can make your hair look dull, feel rough, and make styling that bit more difficult. But what exactly are split ends, and how can you get rid of them (and more importantly, prevent them from coming back)? Let’s take a closer look.

What Are Split Ends?

Split ends happen when the protective outer layer of your hair, the cuticle, wears away, leaving the inner core exposed. This causes the hair strand to weaken and eventually split off the ends. They can look like hair is fraying into two or more strands, and once they appear, they will only get worse is left untreated.

What Causes Split Ends?

There are several culprits behind split ends, including:

·       Heat styling – regular use of straighteners, curlers, and blow dryers can dry out the hair.

·       Chemical treatments – colouring, bleaching, or relaxing hair weakens the structure.

·       Mechanical stress – rough brushing, towel-drying, or tight hairstyles cause breakage.

·       Environmental factors – UV exposure, wind, and pollution can all dry out and damage your hair.

·       Lack of moisture – when hair is dry, it becomes brittle and more likely to split.

Can You Repair Split Ends?

Sadly, once a strand has split, the only real cure is a trim. Cutting the damaged ends stop them from travelling further up the hair shaft, protecting the rest of your hair. But do not worry, there is plenty you can do to prevent split ends from forming in the first place.

How To Prevent Split Ends

·       Regular trims – every 6-8 weeks is ideal to keep your ends fresh and split end free.

·       Gentle handling – use a wide tooth comb or our Bamboo Paddle Brush and avoid aggressive brushing (always start from the bottom and work your way up).

·       Protect from heat – limit heat styling, try heatless styling, and always apply a heat protector like our Miracle Milk.

·       Stay nourished – a balanced diet, rich in vitamins and omega oils, support stronger hair growth.

·       Hydrate your hair – weekly hair masks to keep your strands soft and moisturised.
